Bale Mountains National Park is one of Ethiopia’s most spectacular natural treasures. Covering 2,200 square kilometers in the Oromia Region, the park protects Africa’s largest Afro-alpine ecosystem and Ethiopia’s second-largest mountain range.

Established in 1970, Bale Mountains National Park plays a vital role in conserving rare wildlife. The park provides a sanctuary for the endangered Mountain Nyala and the Ethiopian Wolf, the world’s rarest wild canid.

The landscape rises to 4,377 meters above sea level and offers remarkable ecological diversity. Visitors can travel across the vast Sanetti Plateau, explore alpine grasslands, and descend into the lush Harenna Forest, one of Ethiopia’s last remaining cloud forests.

In addition, the park supports a rich variety of birds, mammals, and endemic plant species. The highest road in Africa crosses the park, providing breathtaking views of mountains, valleys, and open moorlands.

Whether you enjoy wildlife watching, birding, photography, or trekking, this remarkable park offers an unforgettable experience. Its unique habitats, rare species, and dramatic scenery make it one of the finest nature destinations in Ethiopia.
